Several firearms and ammunition were handed over to the Marine Battalion Landing Team 12 at the 212th Marine Company headquarters in Barangay Bato-Bato, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi on Saturday, December 19, 2020, as units under the command and control of the Western Mindanao Command continue to support the government’s campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms.

MBLT Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Henry Espinosa and Panglima Sugala Mayor Nurbert Sahali handled the ceremonial handover of the weaponry.

Commander of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi, Col. Arturo Rojas, praised the MBLT12 marines for their perseverance in pushing the government’s initiative to address unsecured firearms in the countryside, which is one of the reasons of conflict.

Col. Rojas added, “This effort illustrates the good convergence between our troops and the local top executives of Panglima Sugala.”

Fifteen long rifles, 26 short firearms, two m79, two m203 tubes, two magazines, and 15 ammo were handed up to the military.

“May this gesture of support by the local government of Panglima Sugala be a good example to other officials and communities,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander, Western Mindanao Command.

“Let us continue to work together to free the communities from loose firearms, which we call the menacing tools of violence,” Lt. Gen. Vinluan added.

MBLT12 was entrusted with the rifles and ammunition for the purpose of documentation.
