The 6th Infantry (KAMPILAN) Division, led by Major General Juvymax R. Uy, Joint Task Force Central Commander, prevented hundreds of New People’s Army – Communist Party of the Philippines members from the Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR) from commemorating their 52nd founding anniversary in the hinterlands of Mt. Lumuton in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat on December 1.

After President Rodrigo Duterte announced no truce this holiday season, Major Gen. Uy said the operation to impede the convergence of the Communist Terrorist Group, FSMR, for the commemoration of their anniversary on December 26 was initiated.

People have reported sightings of armed men traveling to Mount Lumuton early this week from highland communities in South Cotabato province. With this, according to 6th ID spokesperson Lt. Col. Anhouvic Atilano, leading military personnel will launch focused military operations.

Three CTG members were killed in the military operation, while other alleged deaths are still being confirmed; many high-powered guns, IEDs (Anti-Personnel Landmines), laptops, two sets of generators, subversive documents, and other war items were also discovered. Troops in the region are still conducting clearing operations.

“Gamit ang ating air assets at Joint-combined arms operations, mabilis nating naitaboy ang tangkang pagtipon-tipon sana ng mga rebelde at itinayo natin ang bandila ng Pilipinas dito sa nakubkob natin na kuta ng NPA” said Uy.

He credited Col. Eduardo Gubat, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, and his subordinate-battalion commanders for besieging their campsite and neutralizing three NPAs in part for the success.

The Provincial LGU of Sultan Kudarat is urging the NPAs to return to the folds of the law and participate in the government’s reconciliation effort.

“Barangay leaders, among them members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, are supporting the military’s anti-NPA campaign,” Abdulsatar Badruddin, the municipal mayor of Palimbang’s executive secretary, said during a simple program after the military took control of an NPA encampment in the municipality.
