The Office of Civil Defense-Bicol (OCD-Bicol) bought and distributed bags of rice and extra construction materials to Catanduanes province just two weeks after receiving the P7 million donation from the Philippine Army.

The money was distributed to eleven towns on December 31st of last year.

MGen. Henry A. Robinson Jr. PA, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division (9ID) and Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB), presented the cheque to Director Claudio Yucot of OCD-Bicol in a ceremony on December 20.

Soldiers, including the Spear Troopers, gave a percentage of their mess allowance to help raise the funds.

Both the OCD-Bicol and the JTFB believe it will be extremely beneficial to the Catandunganons, who are still recovering from a series of powerful typhoons that hit their province in November.

Previously, 9ID assisted in the construction of dwellings for 27 informal settler families who were transferred from Camp Elias Angeles to Sodusta Village in Barangay Caroyroyan, Pili, Camarines Sur.

Spear Troopers volunteered to contribute their one-day mess allowance as well as work for the still-in-progress house construction.

These initiatives complement 9ID’s successful anti-insurgency activities, which are continuing to gain traction in Bicol, as seen by the increasing number of surrenderees and successful military engagements.
