Navy rescues passengers and crew of a distressed boat in Basilan

The Naval Forces Western Mindanao aided in the quick rescue of people from a stricken boat in the waters off Basilan on January 13, 2021.

Mr. Reymar Wee, of Tubig Putih, Luuk, Sulu, called the Naval Task Group Sulu to report an incident involving his motor launch in the waters off Lampinigan Island, Isabela City, Basilan, at 4:33 AM.

According to Wee, the boat captain, Sonny, informed him that while en transit from Zamboanga to Luuk, Sulu, the ML “Queen Shaima 3” sustained a break hole in the hull, resulting in water leakage into the engine room.

The passengers were identified as Angelica Sali, a 19-year-old female from Zamboanga City’s Barangay Upper Calarian; Angel Enriquez, a 21-year-old female from Tumaga; and Jasmin Loyola, a 19-year-old female from Sta. Maria, a 19-year-old female from Sta. Maria, a 19-year-old female from Sta. Maria, a 19-year-old female from Sta. Maria.

During the initial investigation, Sonny disclosed that they were going through the area when they experienced a surge, which caused the boat to be damaged.

The rescued individuals were transferred to Isabela City port and are now in the custody of the Philippine Coast Guard.
