Philippine Air Force Civil-Military Operations Group lend a hand in different far-flung communities

Over the weekend, the Philippine Air Force Civil-Military Operations Group assisted many isolated communities.

With 20 participants from the Women Organization and Brgy Officials of Brgy Bokong, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, the Tactical Operations Group 9, PAFCIT, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Region IX and the Rotary Club of Pagadian, launched its project entitled “Sustainable Mushroom Production for Barangay Bokong” on July 15, 2021.

Ms. Juvy L. Guatno, DA R9 Science Research Specialist I, gave a lecture about the health advantages of mushrooms, the procedures used to prepare mushrooms mycelia, and the incubation period before the mushrooms are planted. Ms. Guatno also demonstrated how to correctly cultivate and care for mushrooms.

In addition, the participants were given practical exercises on the methods that were demonstrated. The activity will benefit the residents of Brgy. Bokong in their daily lives by providing more sources of food and cash, which will make life easier for the community during this pandemic.

The program was a success, and Hon. Fernando C. Rollo, Chairman of Brgy. Bokong, thanked the Tactical Operations Group 9, Department of Agriculture R9, and Rotary Club of Pagadian for making their town a benefit of the initiative and for supporting their barrio.

Meanwhile, the Tactical Operations Group 10, in collaboration with Junior Chamber International (JCI), held a feeding event in celebration of Nutrition Month, as well as a distribution of school materials to students in preparation for the approaching “Balik Eskwela” on July 15, 2021 in Brgy. Tagbak, Talakag, Bukidnon.

The activity, which was carried out in collaboration with partner stakeholders JCI Bai Lawanen of Cagyan de Oro City and JCI Marikina Sapatos of Marikina City, aims to bring joy to the 180 Talaandig Tribes children who received school supplies, food, and a free haircut in the Bukidnon hinterland, and to instill the value of education.

The IP Children and tribal council expressed their gratitude for the action that took place in their community. Similarly, during the course of the exercise, COVID-19 protocol was seen.
