One inbound passenger with a positive RT-PCR test result was apprehended by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Southwestern Mindanao at the Port of Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

Upon arrival of the subject passenger / RoRo vessel from Dumaguete City, inbound passengers were properly profiled and checked by PCG and Port Police Division (PPD) – Dapitan personnel.

One of the passengers, a 32-year-old individual, presented his RT-PCR test result that declared him as positive for COVID-19.

Based on the investigation, said passenger was permitted to board the vessel, despite his pending RT-PCR test result.

Immediately, PCG and PPD – Dapitan personnel coordinated with the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and transported the COVID-19 positive passenger to a designated isolation facility, in accordance with local quarantine protocols.

Moreover, the Provincial IATF requested the Port Management Office – Zamboanga del Norte to investigate the incident, disinfect subject vessel, and identify close contacts for immediate isolation.

Said vessel was temporarily suspended pending disinfection and release of RT-PCR test results of primary to tertiary close contacts of the COVID-19 positive passenger.

For its part, the PCG District Southwestern Mindanao reminded its units to strictly implement health and safety protocols within their areas of responsibility, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19.
