“28 high and low-powered firearms were handed over by the chairperson of the 26 barangays of Wao to Col. Jovencio Gonzales, Deputy Commander of 602nd Infantry Brigade,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command.

Handed over were 21 12-gauge shotguns, four cal. 38mm revolvers, one cal. 38mm pistol, one 9mm Uzi, and cal. 22 revolver.

Wao Mayor Elvino Balicao, Jr. and other local authorities were present at the ceremonial handover of firearms conducted at the Barangay Extention Covered Court in Wao.

“Said endeavor is through the continuous collaboration of the 34th Infantry Battalion, Wao Municipal Police Station, and the barangay officials,” said Brig. Gen. Roberto Capulong, Commander of 602Bde.

Commander of JTF Central, Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, praised the troops and thanked the local leaders for their real support for the war against the spread of loose guns in central and southern Mindanao.

Joint Task Force Central has recovered a total of 62 stray guns in its area of operation since January 2021.

“We are working doubly to clear the communities from loose firearms, disarm the armed groups, end terrorism, and sustain the peace in our area of operation,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.

“Let us all continue to do our part for the long-coveted peace to last,” the commander added.
