The 40th Infantry (Magiting) Battalion held a flag salute in commemoration of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) day with the theme “Upholding the Law of Armed Conflict Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic: Protecting Humanity for Healing and Recovery (Pagpapatibay sa Batas ng Digmaan sa Panahon ng Pandemya Para Sa Kalunasan ng Sangkatauhan)” held at the Headquarters, Barangay Tual, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat on August 9, 2021.

This ceremony was simultaneously held in all government agencies across the country in support of the IHL month celebration.

Among the activities carried out by the 40th Infantry Battalion were the reading of a message by LtGen Jose C. Faustino Jr., the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), soldier’s pledge of commitment, film viewing of “Rules of War”, violation of the New People’s Army and laying a tarpaulin in support of the IHL day held every twelfth of August this year.

The purpose of the ceremony is to remind and educate members of the 40th Infantry Battalion about the importance of safeguarding and protecting citizens’ human rights, whether in times of war or peace, such as correct treatment of detainees and injured in warfare.

This initiative also intends to educate the military on how to file charges against armed people or organizations, such as communist terrorists and locals, who conduct violent crimes in their areas.

“Bilang agent ng pamahalaan nararapat na igalang, protektahan, at isulong ang karapatang pantao ng bawat tao bilang pagsunod sa mandato ng ating bansa, no one is above the law at respetuhin natin ang mga human rights advocators na lumikha ng mga batas” said LTC Edwin M. Alburo INF (GSC) PA, head of 40th Infantry Battalion.

The activities carried out by the 40th Infantry Battalion show solidarity and support in commemorating IHL day in fulfillment of the AFP’s mandate to serve the people and protect our country.
