At the early morning hours of August 20, 2021, the 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade presented the Wounded Personnel Medal to Pvt Nestor Apanon in Barangay Del Pilar, Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Apanon, a former rebel who recently graduated and enlisted as a regular member of the Philippine Army, was wounded last August 18 at Barangay Bagumbayan, Sergio Osmeña Sr, Zamboanga del Norte, during a clash with the Communist Terrorist Group.

During his remarks to the troops of the 97th Infantry (Kalasaglahi) Battalion and Task Unit Jaguar, 102Bde Commander Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas praised the troops’ unwavering commitment to the mission’s success.

“As your commander, who approves the operations on the ground, I acknowledge the dedication and commitment each one of you have demonstrated,” said Brig. Gen. Nicolas.

“Our efforts and the sacrifices of our comrades who have gone before us are all part and parcel of our mandate as protectors of the people,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas added.

Brig. Gen. Nicolas also paid a visit to Pfc John Mark Grande of the 42nd Infantry (Tagapagtanggol) Battalion, who was recuperating at the Kuta Cesar S. Sang-an Station Hospital in Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, after receiving an award from Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio, Commander, 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division.

“We will not stop and we will continue to push forward until we accomplish our mission of a peaceful and development-ready Zamboanga Peninsula,” Brig. Gen. Nicolas ended.
