The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) welcomed Auxiliary Ensign Julia Barretto to the PCG Auxiliary K9 Squadron on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

At the National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral George V. Ursabia Jr, oversaw the donning and oath-taking ceremonies of Auxiliary Ensign Julia Barretto, Auxiliarist Ando Cruise Catipay, Auxiliarist Jalil Laidan, and Auxiliarist Harold Jocel Talan.

CG Admiral Ursabia thanked the new members of the PCGA for their commitment to serve the country by assisting the Coast Guard in humanitarian missions and disaster response operations.

During the ceremony, the Coast Guard Commandant emphasized the country’s growing need for K9 units to promote national security.

With the completion of the PCG – PPA K9 Academy in Clark, Pampanga, CG Admiral Ursabia stated that the Department of Transportation – Philippines (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) will soon be able to provide high-quality and competent K9 units to various government agencies across the country.

Auxiliary Ensign Barretto, as the most senior appointee, was given the opportunity to speak on behalf of her fellow PCGA members.

She expressed gratitude to the PCG, particularly the PCGA K9 Squadron, for welcoming her into public service. In exchange, she promised to actively support the unit’s programs aimed at providing the Filipino people with modest and caring service.

The low-key event was also witnessed by Auxiliary Lieutenant Commander Gerald Anderson of the PCGA K9 Squadron.

Auxiliary is a word that implies “volunteer.” Members of the PCGA are committed to serving the PCG by donating their time, effort, and resources with no expectation of remuneration.
