Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and ‘Tanods’ (village guards) in a Nueva Vizcaya town have received assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The aid was given to the 158 BNS and Barangay Tanods in honor of their role as community frontliners in the government’s efforts and response to COVID-19.
According to Vice Governor Jose Tomas, Sr., the distribution of aid to BNS and village guards was made possible by the issuance of a DSWD memorandum designating them as frontline health workers in the government’s COVID-19 health emergency response, as recommended by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“We thank the DSWD, DILG and the LGU of Villaverde for this assistance to our BNS’ and barangay Tanods. This will help them in supporting their families in this time of COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Tomas expressed his optimism that the DSWD will soon provide similar support to other local government units.
