Members of the Dawlh Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) surrendered to JTG HARIBON at Kampo Ranao, Marawi City on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Surrendered terrorists were identified as @MOSAB, a 19-year-old male from Brgy. Kalangnan, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, and @HODAIFA, from Brgy. Tambo, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, thanks to the joint efforts of JTG HARIBON, led by its Commander BGen Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, and the LGU of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur led by Hon. Ali L. Sumandar, Vice Mayor.

The DI-MG compelled @MOSAB to join the terrorist organisation sometime in January 2021, according to him. He was involved in multiple firefights against government forces in the province’s hinterlands, including Madalum & Piagapo in Lanao del Sur and Munai and Tangcal in Lanao del Norte, causing terror and displacing some residents.

Similarly, @HODAIFA abandoned the group in 2021 after recognizing the deceitful DI-MG’s intent of exploiting violent extremism as the authentic Jihad. In 2017, he was a member of the group that harassed and attacked Marawi City.

The two surrenderees took their high-powered rifles and ammunition with them.

BGen Cuerpo II told them that their safety and well-being will be prioritized. He highlighted that every life rescued from the terrorists’ brutal influence is a worthwhile endeavor.

The 103rd Infantry (HARIBON) Brigade, in collaboration with the Lanao del Sur local government, will continue to encourage these extremists to yield and settle down with their families, to devote their lives to peace and development, and to become valuable members of the province.
