Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Sub – Station Baybay on Monday, September 6, 2021, rescued a distressed fisherman off Barangay Bunga, Baybay City, Leyte.

Mr. Enrique Alicame, 54, a resident of Sitio Lawis 1, Barangay Zone 22, Baybay City, was identified as the fisherman.

Mrs. Perigrina Alicame, his wife, reported the incident to Coast Guard Sub-Station Baybay on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Search and rescue (SAR) operations were immediately launched by the PCG Quick Response Team (QRT) and the Coastal Fisheries and Resources Management Office (CFRMO).

After combing the area for two hours, the team located Mr. Alicame onboard his motorbanca and took him to Baybay City’s shoreline.

According to the rescued fisherman, he faced large waves and heavy gusts while fishing, causing his motorbanca to drift.

Fortunately, he was able to secure his motorbanca to a fish marking and wait until better weather to get back home.

Mr. Alicame was returned to his family in fine physical shape, but he was instructed not to go out on the water during bad weather for his own protection.
