PCG rescues sea turtle trapped in a fishnet off Romblon coast

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued a sea turtle that had become trapped in a fishnet at the vicinity waters off Barangay Sugod, Cajidiocan, Romblon on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

The green sea turtle, with a length of 108 centimeters and a breadth of 96 centimeters, is a critically endangered species.

This marine animals are threatened by overharvesting of their eggs, hunting of adults, being caught in fishing gear and loss of nesting beach sites.

Maritime patrol personnel from the PCG Sub-Station Cajidiocan located and rescued the marine animal.

For its assessment and evaluation, the PCG collaborated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
