53IB Commander confers award, commendation to Matapat Troopers in far-flung patrol base in Zamboanga del Sur

Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, Commander of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB), boosted the morale and welfare of Matapat Troopers during a visit to a remote patrol base in Barangay Pisompongan in Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

Technical Sergeant Wanil Gandawali was awarded the Military Merit Medal by Lt. Col. Herrera for his exceptional and important contribution to the mission accomplishment of Western Mindanao Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines.

CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAAs) Dante Tagala, Sabano Balives, Salvino Balives, Antonio Lumingkit, and CAA Allan Tormis received a Certificate of Recognition for safeguarding Barangay Pisompongan and the adjacent regions, while CAA Reymarc Zita received a Letter of Commendation. These awards were given to the CAAs for their vital contributions in keeping Barangay Pisompongan safe from CPP-NPA infiltration and atrocities, and therefore keeping the community secure from terrorists from the NPA.

Lt. Col. Herrera stressed in his statement that the Higher Headquarters appreciates their hard work and dedication to service.

“Our Higher Headquarters never forget your efforts as they recognize your invaluable contributions to peace and security. May these inspire you and others. May these commendations keep you motivated to serve the people we all have sworn to protect,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
