Joint forces of 5ID and 7ID deliver devastating blow against the disintegrated NPAs in Cordillera

Troops of 72 Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) under the operational control of 54th Infantry Battalion, 5th Infantry Division scored against the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in an encounter in Barangay Mainit, Bontoc, Mt. Province on September 28, 2021.

When more than ten CTG members opened fire on the troops, they were attempting to verify information provided by residents regarding the existence of Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs). Two CTG members were killed in the ensuing firefight, which lasted roughly 30 minutes. Ernesto Lucaben Jr, alias Ashley/Lando, and Wilfredo Gaayon, alias Jaz, were both recognized as remnants of KLG-AMPIS.

One M14 rifle, five (5) magazines of M14 rifle loaded with 70 rounds of ammunition, three (3) magazines of AK79 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition, nine (9) anti-personnel mines, two (2) rifle grenades, two (2) hand grenades, two (2) pieces blasting caps, wires, medicines, and other personal belongings were also recovered by the troops. On the government’s side, no casualties were reported.

It should be mentioned that the Communist Terrorist Group and its affiliated organizations have been proclaimed Persona Non Grata in the communities of Mountain Province.

Major General Laurence E. Mina, Commander of 5ID, issued a warning to the remaining CTGs to put an end to their so-called armed revolution, which has resulted in the deaths of many people.

“Barangay Mainit, Bontoc, Mt Province is not a place for you to hide. The people are giving us information about your presence in their community. We are one with the peace-loving residents of the said locality,” said Mina.

“We wish to see you start a new life. And so, I am appealing to the remaining members of the CTGs to return to the folds of the law and avail the assistance of the government under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP),” the general concluded.
