Army, TESDA introduces poverty-alleviation training in ELCAC barangay in Lakewood; organizes community outreach

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – Region IX (TESDA-IX) with Assistant Regional Director and Provincial Director Engr. Alan Bacatan together with the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) of Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur, other government agencies, and the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) conducted a Training Induction Program in Barangay Gasa, one of Lakewood town’s ELCAC barangays.

TESDA is the chair of Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC).

Participating member government agencies also presented their programs to apprise the community of the various government initiatives to alleviate poverty. A community outreach services was also rendered: giving of food packs, cup cake baking, and making of hot meals.

Barangay Gasa, one of the PRLEC Target Barangays, is also part of the Barangay Development Program (BDP), ELCAC’s flagship program that was created to eventually counter insurgency by providing sustainable solutions and basic services to communities in need. In April 2019, it was certified “clear” of CPP-NPA influence.
