Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Jose C Faustino Jr. earned his fourth star and was elevated to the rank of general on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
During his official visit to the Bicol International Airport in Daraga, Albay, President Rodrigo Duterte, the Commander-in-Chief of the AFP, personally administered the donning of rank to General Faustino.
At the same time, President Duterte conferred a new rank on Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, Commander of the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM).
“It is an honor to don these lustrous stars which carry the weight of our obligations to the country and its people. This milestone demands no less than an exemplary performance in the fulfilment of our mandate as soldiers,” said General Faustino.
President Duterte has authorized the appointment of General Faustino and five other AFP officers, who will take office on September 15, 2021.
General Faustino succeeded General Cirilito Sobejana, who stepped down from the AFP leadership on July 31 after reaching the obligatory retirement age.
General Faustino served as the Commander of Joint Task Force Mindanao and the Acting Commanding General of the Philippine Army before becoming the 56th Chief of Staff. He graduated in 1988 from the Philippine Military Academy’s “Maringal” class.
The AFP Chief has also served in the military as a Battalion and Brigade Commander in Western Mindanao, as well as Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command.
On Friday, October 8, 2021, General Faustino received traditional Military Honors at the AFP General Headquarters in Quezon City.
“With the help of the hardworking men and women of the AFP, rest assured that the military’s tradition of excellence and professionalism is continuously upheld,” the AFP Chief remarked.
