7 fishermen rescued from distressed fishing boat off Sicogon Island

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Sub-Station Carles rescued seven fishermen from a distressed fishing boat at the vicinity waters off Sicogon Island, Carles, Iloilo on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

The FBCA Arianne was leaving Estancia, Iloilo for a fishing trip in the waters between Sicogon Island and Bayas Island when it ran into engine issues due to heavy winds and large waves.

The boat captain lowered their anchor and requested assistance from PCG Sub-Station Carles.

Upon receiving the distress call, the PCG’s deployable response team promptly boarded the rented motorbanca, FBCA Arias Amigo, and proceeded to the aforementioned nearby waters to undertake a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The PCG team towed the wrecked fishing banca to the coast of Barangay San Fernando, Sicogon Island, Carles, Iloilo for repairs after confirming the safety of the seven fishermen.

All of the people that were rescued were in good physical shape.

The fishermen were told not to go out into the sea during bad weather and were permitted to return to their homes in Barangay Tanza, Estancia, Iloilo, after an investigation.
