In a clash with government troops in Diwagao Complex, Tappa, San Mariano, Isabela on October 29, 2021, two Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) were killed.

The military were dispatched when residents informed them of the presence of CNTs. Following verification, the CNTs opened fire on the operating troops, who were caught off guard by their presence. The terrorist NPAs scurried away in different directions after a brief firefight that lasted around five minutes. The army cleared the encounter scene right away and uncovered two dead CNTs with two M16 rifles.

The two enemy victims were identified as alias Dave, Squad leader, and alias Albert, an element, both from the Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG), Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley (KRCV) in that area, with the support of former rebels. The task given to the aforementioned group was to reestablish their lost mass base in that portion of San Mariano.

The forces suffered no casualties and are now working with local officials in San Mariano, Isabela, to determine how to properly dispose of the bodies of the two deceased CNTs.

MGen Laurence E. Mina, Commander of the Philippine Army’s 5th Infantry Division, praised the troops of the 95 Infantry “Salaknib” Battalion, led by Lt Col Carlos B. Sangdaan, and the elements of the 1st Isabela Police Mobile Force Company for their quick response, which led to the operation’s success.

He also expressed his gratitude to the locals for providing timely information that led to the armed engagement.

“The support of the people is the key factor in achieving our goal of ending insurgency. The prompt relay of information and the rapid reaction of the troops preempted the terroristic plans of the CTGs against the people. Let it be known that San Mariano is not a safe place for Terrorist NPAs to hide.”
