Troops from the 1002nd Brigade in Malungon, Sarangani, South Cotabato on Wednesday, November 17, destroyed firearms surrendered by the New People’s Army (NPA) guerillas.

In an event attended by 10th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr., 1002nd Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Potenciano Camba, and 701st Brigade Commander Col. Oliver Maquiling, thirty assault rifles were cut into pieces using power tools.

The NPA’s influence in the local towns under the 10th Infantry Division’s area of responsibility has been weakened, according to Maj. Gen. Torres, due to the Army units’ and local officials’ continual tactical and humanitarian interventions in the area.
