A total of 15 Navy Reservists from Naval Reserve Center Eastern Visayas took part in the Live Naval Gun Test Firing as part of their Shipboard Familiarization Training.

The aforementioned training happened during the conduct of the 4th Quarter Naval Gun Test Firing of Patrol Craft BRP Alfredo Peckson (PC372) at vicinity 3.1 NM SE off Pangumbacan Point, Camotes Island, Cebu.

The reservists were briefed on the unit’s mission, capabilities, and organizational structure prior to the activity. They were also given tours of the ship’s various departments to familiarize them with the functions and equipment of the Operations, Damage Control and Engineering, Deck and Gunnery, and Mess and Supply Department.

Several shipboard drills were also held to familiarize reservists with the various administrative, emergency, and operational evolutions that can occur aboardship under particular scenarios.

Shipboard Familiarization Training is part of the NRC-preparatory EV’s training for navy reservists undertaking sea duty before being absorbed into the Philippine Navy’s ready reserve units.

As the force multiplier, reservists will gain the essential skills and knowledge during their integration into the regular force by having the opportunity to navigate the ship and handle shipboard equipment. This equips them with the necessary skills in the event of crises, disasters, or conflict.
