Army foils planned CNT extortion in Zamboanga del Norte

Following an engagement in Polanco, Zamboanga Del Norte on December 1, combined forces of the Army’s 97th and 42nd Infantry Battalions recovered weaponry and supplies from CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs).

In the hinterlands of Polanco town, troops engaged 15 CNTs near the border of barangays Melad and Linabo. The CNTs recovered live ammunition, various medical paraphernalia, food supplies, and personal things during the ensuing 25-minute gunfight.

Lt. Col. Nolasco Coderos Jr., commander of the 97IB, credited the operation’s success to timely information provided by a concerned citizen who reported the presence of unknown people on his farm asking for food, money, and information on forces in the area.

Lt. Gen. Andres Centino, Army Commanding General and AFP Chief of Staff, praised the troops’ recent accomplishments while emphasizing the necessity to scale up concentrated military operations to expedite the CTGs’ total defeat.
