73 former rebels receive assistance in Aurora

The Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry (SINAGTALA) Battalion has teamed up with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Trade and Industry to help 73 former rebels in Aurora start their lives together with their families, especially this Christmas.

The DSWD distributed a total of P210,000 in financial support to 70 FRs, while the DTI provided livelihood assistance worth P24,000 to three FRs at a simple ceremony held on December 7, 2021, according to Lieutenant Colonel Reandrew P. Rubio, Commanding Officer of 91IB.

Under the “Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa Program,” the DTI-Aurora kits offered grocery products for sari-sari stores, Bigasan, and poultry raising to three beneficiaries.

The money was given to support the families of former rebels and their supporters who have returned to their communities and are undertaking the process of reintegration into mainstream society.

LTC Rubio stated that the LGU’s complete support for the FRs through the Whole-of-The-Nation approach is critical in achieving inclusive, long-term peace and development.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Andrew D. Costelo PA, Commander of the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, noted that these 73 FRs will have the opportunity to transform their lives thanks to the NGAs’ quick response in Aurora.

“Malaking bagay ang assistance na ito para makapagsimula sila sa kanilang bagong buhay. Hindi madali ang mag re-integrate sa society pero dahil meron silang magagamit na puhunan para sa kanilang hanap-buhay, hindi sila masyadong mahihirapan,” said BGen Costelo.
