Marine troops from the 4th Marine Brigade’s Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 brought a truckload of different books to Tayungan Elementary School in Barangay Tayungan, Panamao, Sulu on Friday, December 3, 2021.

According to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao PAO, the activity was part of the Marine Brigade’s Community Support Program, which helps communities in their area of operation. The project brought together marine personnel and staff members from the school, who worked together to build a mini-library for the school and develop ways to generate books to fill it.

In order to support literacy programs in the 2nd District of Sulu, the 4th Marine Brigade formed a partnership with Caritas Manila through the latter’s “Segunda Mana” book program. This partnership paved the way for the donation of books, which were delivered from Manila to geographically isolated areas in Sulu.

Ms. Lorna Iraji, the teacher-in-charge of Tayungan Elementary School, and faculty members gratefully accepted the given books and conveyed their gratitude to the donors.

“We will make the donated books available not only for the students and school teachers but also to anyone who wants to read books in the mini-library,” said Ms.Iraji.

Col. Hernanie S. Songano PN(M)(GSC), the Commander Naval Task Group Sulu and 4th Marine Brigade presided over the turnover of books to the school.
