Army reserve personnel in Central and Northern Luzon participated on Sunday, December 5, 2021, in a seven-event military challenge aimed at improving squad capabilities.

The 3rd Squad Challenge for Army Reserve Forces in the 7th Infantry Division (SCARF 7) was held simultaneously in Camp Abat in Manaoag, Pangasinan, and Camp Aquino in Tarlac City, with fifteen infantry squads from Regions 1 and 3.

“SCARF 7 is a complementary program of 7ID in developing our Army reserve forces,” said Brig. Gen. Andrew D. Costelo, the newly designated commander of 7ID.

“This is our way of developing the interoperability of the regular and reserve ground forces in our area.”

Army leadership skills, crisis response, warfare planning, radio communication, modified map reading, weapon disassembly and assembly, and combat shooting are among the SCARF 7 events.

The Philippine Army has been increasing its reserve force as an efficient complement to its regular forces, thanks to its Reserve Command.
