Law enforcement operatives confiscated P300-M worth of smuggled cigarettes in Zamboanga City

Law enforcement officers in Barangay Baliwasan, Zamboanga City, condemned and disposed of smuggled cigarettes worth P300 million on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

From May to November 2021, 8,250 master cases of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated in various law enforcement operations in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

CG Commodore Luisito S. Sibayan, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Southwestern Mindanao Commander, and BOC District Collector Segundo Sigmundfreud Z. Barte Jr. joined the initiative.

The PCG, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Marines, Philippine Navy, National Bureau of Investigation, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Internal Revenue, local government units, and other concerned stakeholders were recognized by the BOC for their contributions to the region’s effective anti-smuggling operations.

The sanitary landfill in Barangay Salaan, Zamboanga City, was used to dispose of the condemned products.
