PCG assists 2 missing fishermen off Binalbagan waters

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has aided two fishermen who went missing off the coast of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on December 15, 2021 while on a fishing trip.

Joevel M. Tipon, 29, and Noel Dela Cruz, 19, both of Sitio Pasil, Barangay Enclaro, Binalbagan, have been identified as the missing fisherman who have not returned home.

The PCG Sub-Station Hinigaran got information that the missing fishermen were drifting in the coastal waters of Purok 2, Barangay Lina-on Cauayan, Negros Occidental, about 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

They were discovered by 37-year-old Rolando Tawtawan, a fisherman, about one kilometer from the barangay’s shoreline. The PCG team immediately went to the scene of the incident to offer help.

The PCG Sub-Station Cauayan’s investigation revealed that Tipon and Dela Cruz experienced engine issues while their route to Binalbagan’s shoreline.

When the rescued fisherman were returned to their families, they were in fair physical condition.

To avoid unpleasant marine events, the PCG also recommended residents and fishermen not to venture out into the sea during stormy weather.
