Philippine Army’s 53IB extends support to Typhoon Odette victims

Through the Office of Civil Defense, the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) provided humanitarian aid to the victims of Typhoon Odette in Surigao.

The 53IB assisted victims of Typhoon Odette in Surigao by assisting in the transfer of various food items (FIs) and non-food items (NFIs) to OCD-CARAGA Region through the Office of Civil Defense – Region IX (OCD-IX).

FIs and NFIs include 1,220 bottles of water, 144 pieces of soap, 366 sachets of shampoo, 276 sachets of toothpaste, 60 pieces of toothbrush, 951 Shelter Repair Kits, 1,000 blankets, 46 Family Kits, 2,000 Hygiene Kits, and 70 Family Packs. Ten (10) portable generators were also given to OCD-CARAGA to help supplement relief efforts for typhoon-affected families.

Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, 53IB Commanding Officer, said in a statement that the 53IB will continue to assist families in need.

“We will continue to conduct Disaster Response Operations to help and serve our fellow Filipinos who were severly hit by the typhoon,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
