The Army Signal Regiment, Philippine Army utilizes its Humanitarian and Disaster Response (HADR) and Deployable Signal Team (DST) in Visayas Command (VISCOM) and Western Command (WESCOM) to boost the disaster and relief assistance efforts spearheaded by the government in terms of signal communications.
The different ASR Signal Battalions: 3SBn, 4SBn, and 8SBn which are stationed in the most affected areas, were able to prepare and deploy their respective HADR and DST. The teams set up critical communication equipment and devices so that the situation on the ground could be monitored and necessary aid could be provided.
CPT Mohadzin L. Camendan (SC) PA of the 4SBn leads a team that supplies signal, installs Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), and conducts connection assessments at Headquarters 901BDE, Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Placer, Surigao Del Norte to determine the unit’s extra communication needs. CPT Rymar E. Dablo (SC) PA of the WESCOM, Puerto Princesa, Palawan, provided the same services.
The Signal Installation and Maintenance Battalion (SIMBn), ASR, on the other hand, offers Signal Support and installed a Satellite Network Telecommunication (SATNET) at Grandstand, BGBNEAB, Airbase Mactan, Cebu, to meet the needs of various government agencies and units stationed there.
Similarly, in the provincial capitol in Maasin, Southern Leyte, the DST led by CPT Christian P. Pascasio (SC) PA of the 8SBn deployed monitoring and Signal Support.
The Army Signal Regiment’s collaborative operations and services are expected to mitigate the effects of Typhoon Odette. The Philippine Army and Armed Forces of the Philippines, in collaboration with the national government and local government units, will never stop protecting the people and serving the country, regardless of the circumstances.
