The Philippine Army on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, loaded the first consolidated relief commodities from private donors onto the Philippine Navy’s BRP Tarlac destined for Cebu province at Pier 1, South Harbor, Manila.

From Headquarters Philippine Army in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, to Pier 13 in South Harbor, Manila, the Philippine Army loaded 13 truckloads of canned goods, rice, water, and other necessary supplies. The Philippine Navy’s landing ship BRP Tarlac (LD-601). The navy ship will depart for Cebu today, December 29, to bring relief supplies.

The goods will be turned over to the Cebu provincial government for distribution to the province’s affected population.

Meanwhile, Army units in the Visayas, North, and Eastern Mindanao have been assisting local government units in clearing and relief efforts in communities hit by Odette, the country’s most powerful and destructive tropical cyclone this year. Army units stationed in areas not directly impacted by Odette are concentrating their efforts on collecting and transporting essential supplies from private donors.

Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner, Jr., Army Chief of Staff, praised the troops’ efforts in assisting typhoon-affected communities. He told all units to follow the President’s directive to use all available resources to aid relief and recovery efforts in the typhoon-devastated areas.

“The Philippine Army is committed to working with our partners to reach out and help families affected by the typhoon. The spirit of “Bayanihan” remains very much alive as we help our typhoon-stricken countrymen get back on their feet,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said.

“Rest assured, the Philippine Army – together with national government agencies, local government units, and other partners – are working round the clock to ease the suffering of typhoon-afflicted families and help them return to their normal lives,” the CGPA remarked.

The Philippine Army’s donation drive is still going strong, as more private donors send money to help the victims of typhoon.
