On January 8, 2022, two lay-low NPA members willingly surrendered to Philippine Army troops from the 85th Infantry Battalion in Buenavista, Quezon.
After facing famine and abuse under the control of Sub Regional Military Area 4B (SRMB-4B) , former NPA members Ka Jomel and Ka Rowen turned to the government. The former insurgents also urged the surviving members of their prior group to lay down their weapons and seek peace. The surrenderers will be integrated into the government’s Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program and will be supported in their efforts to live peacefully with their families.
The Philippine Army’s Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., praised the troops for assisting the surrenderers. He also encourages the group’s remaining members to assist the government in its efforts to achieve peace and development.
“To our soldiers from the 85th Infantry Battalion, your continuous efforts will surely lead us towards our goal of eradicating the threat from insurgents within this year. Through your dedication and perseverance, we can now achieve a peaceful community as NPA members slowly but surely realize the futility of their atrocities,” said Lt. Gen. Brawner.
