The Philippine Army’s 53d Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) held a “Gratitude Parade” yesterday, January 14, marching around Guipos town, Zamboanga del Sur, to convey its gratitude to its stakeholders.

While parading across Brgy. Poblacion of Guipos – the barangay where the 53IB is currently stationed – the 53IB displayed its forces, military vehicles, and capabilities such as its Disaster Response Team. The Battalion was accompanied by Guipos PNP; PNP’s 52nd Special Action Company, Special Action Force (SAF); ZamboSur PNP’s 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company; and Army’s 547th Engineer Battalion.

53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said in a statement that the unit’s stakeholders have always been supportive of the unit’s missions, resulting in Zamboanga del Sur being declared an insurgency-free and development-ready province.

“We conducted the Gratitude March to remind our stakeholders that ‘This is your Army – an Army you can be proud of.’ We will continue to serve you to the best of our abilities,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
