In a confrontation on Saturday, January 15, 2022, troops from the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) of the 3rd Infantry Division neutralized CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) and rescued a minor combatant in Sitio Manlibod, Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

62IB troops foiled the planned extortion and relief effort disruption of CNTs believed to be part of Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS).

During the five-minute firefight, one enemy was killed, two others were wounded, a minor combatant was rescued, and various war materials and subversive documents were recovered.

The two wounded CNTs were then transferred to the Guihulngan City District Hospital for treatment, and the rescued youngster was passed over to the DSWD for suitable disposition.

The Philippine Army’s Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., decried the CNT’s continuous manipulation and exploitation of minors, which he described as a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law.
