Navy ensures free flow of international trade by patrolling key trade routes

The necessity of a continuous flow of business in critical maritime crossroads is highlighted by the global economy. With 90 percent of global trade moving by water, any issue affecting the safety, security, or stability of key communication sea lanes would have a negative impact on the global economy.

The Naval Forces Western Mindanao, under the direction of the Western Mindanao Command, conducts continuous maritime security patrols along these routes. The Sibutu Passage and the transit corridors along the tri-border of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia are among the vital sea lanes that carry a large volume of trade. The Philippine Navy’s BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS17), which is part of Naval Task Force 61 and is stationed in the Naval Forces Western Mindanao Area of Operation (AOR), performs maritime security patrols in these areas on a regular basis.

The Navy in Western Mindanao will continue to deploy assets not just to defend our maritime domain, deter threats, respond to emergencies, and promote our maritime nation’s way of life, according to Capt. Alan M. Javier PN(GSC), Commander of Naval Task Force 61. To enhance global security and prosperity, naval patrols protect crucial maritime channels in the country’s archipelagic waters.

Regular naval forces presence in these areas, according to Capt. Javier, ensures the continuity of the global supply chain in support of our maritime nation’s commitment to international and regional security, prosperity, and the advancement of common interests.
