A Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) squad leader operating in Central Negros Front 2 in Ayungon, Negros Oriental surrendered to the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division’s 94th Infantry Battalion (94IB) on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
Samson Ones Tillo, also known as Dener, a member of the NPA, surrendered along with a Cal. 45 pistol, magazine, and ammunition. Dener had been a member of CTG for almost a decade when he surrendered. He was assigned to undertake propaganda and deceptive recruitment in the Negros Occidental hinterlands of Binalbagan, Himamaylan, and Kabankalan City. He has also been involved in ten violent battles with government forces.
Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman, commander of the 94IB, expressed his hope that more NPA members will follow Dener’s lead and seek a road to permanent peace and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., expressed his gratitude to the unit for convincing one of the CTG leaders to return to the folds of the law and desire to live quietly with his family.
