The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) distributed 19.6 tons of purified drinking water in the Dinagat Islands’ Barangays Cab-ilan and Cabayawan on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
On the vessel’s 17th deployment, MRRV-4408 departed Surigao Baseport carrying 13 tons of bottled mineral water from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) delivered by LCT Charles Jason from Manila and additional 6.6 tons of purified drinking water from consolidated donations loaded to MV Span Asia 35 of the Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corporation.
MRRV-4408 has been proactive in assisting the government’s whole-of-government approach in supplying vital goods and directly addressing water availability and access at the barangay level. Its purpose is to address a major public health issue in the Caraga region, where cases of diarrhea have been documented as a result of Typhoon Odette’s onslaught.
This is also in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to use PCG’s assets and resources to assist in the recovery and rehabilitation of the country’s typhoon-affected areas, as well as other humanitarian and disaster response efforts.
