In a simple inauguration ceremony held as part of its 37th Founding Anniversary, the circumferential road on Camp Major David P. Sabido, the home of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB), was blessed and inaugurated on January 28, 2022 at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

The 1LT Gumampang Circumferential Road was constructed from February 4 to November 10, 2021 and donated by the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur under the leadership of Gov. Victor J. Yu

Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, 53IB Commanding Officer, extended his gratitude to Gov. Yu for their continuing partnership and convergence in delivering growth and development to the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

“This Circumferential Road significantly contributed to the uplifting of our troops’ morale and welfare. Let us continue this close partnership to sustain progress and development in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.

The circumferential road was built in memory of the late 1Lt. Sahiron A. Gumampang who made the ultimate sacrifice for the people of Sulu during a confrontation with the Abu Sayyaf Group near the Karawan Complex in Indanan, Sulu on September 4, 2005.
