Two terrorists from the Daulah Islamiya Maguid Group were killed in an armed engagement with Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) troops headed by First Lieutenant James Agpaoa in Barangay Lapu, Polomolok, South Cotabato on Monday, January 31, 2022.

The troops were praised by Major General Juvymax Uy, Commander of the Joint Task Force Central and the 6th Infantry Division, for their professionalism and dedication in carrying out their mission of defending communities and the Filipino people from terrorist groups’ atrocities.

“If these terrorists were left unchecked, they could possibly attack civilian populace that may result to loss of lives and damage of properties,” said Maj. Gen. Uy.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Rapi, the operating troops’ Battalion Commander, the shootout lasted around five minutes and resulted in the neutralization of two DI-MG terrorists, Zypol Nilong and Salahudin Usman, who were believed to be under the command of Zaiden Jade Nilong alias Aliboy. Two M16 rifles, different components for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and several subversive documents and war materials were also seized during the violent encounter.

The commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade, Brigadier General Pedro Balisi Jr, revealed that operating forces are constantly conducting pursuit operations against other DI terrorists who have managed to flee.

“Our forces will continue to hunt down the remnants of this terrorist group in order to pevent them of attacking our communities. Through the intensified military operations conducted by the JTF Central troops, coupled with the cooperation of the LGUs and the community, the series of successes of these operations indicates that the Daulah Islamiya Terorist Group is nearing its end,” said Brig. Gen. Balisi Jr.

JTF Central has successfully neutralized a number of DI’s top leaders and followers in recent months. Military forces killed Salahuddin Hasan, the known Emir of DI Philippines, and his wife, Jehana Minbida, who was also identified as the group’s Finance Officer, in an armed encounter at Talayan Maguindanao on October 29, 2021.

On December 1, 2021, JTF Central forces neutralized the son of DI Sub-leader Hasan Indal, identified as alias Adsam, in Brgy Ganta, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao, while the newly appointed Emir and leader of the DI Terrorist Group, identified as a certain Asim Karinda alias Abu Azim, and four followers, were killed in an armed clash with JTF Central forces in the nearby town of Mamasapano.

In addition, the DI Emir for military affairs, identified as Norodin Hasan alias Andot, was killed on January 15, 2022 during a massive manhunt operation by JTF Central forces at Carmen, North Cotabato, in search of the mastermind and individuals responsible for the Mindanao Star Bus bombing at Aleosan, North Cotabato on January 11, 2022.

Major General Juvymax Uy has also continued to urge the surviving members of the DI to surrender to the authorities and live in peace with the population.

“As much as possible, we want to give them (DI Terrorists) a chance to live in peace with their families. Surrender and the government will help you build and start your new lives peacefully. Refuse to surrender and the JTF Central forces will not stop in hunting you down,” Maj. Gen. Uy stressed.
