The Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division (8ID) welcomed the arrival of the 3rd Infantry Battalion troops (3IB) at the 8ID Headquarters in Catbalogan City, Samar on February 7, 2022.
The 3IB troops will help in ensuring the safe and orderly polls in Eastern Visayas for the upcoming May 2022 national and local elections. It can be recalled that the 3IB troops made significant accomplishments against Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) operating in the hinterlands of Davao City during its six-year deployment in the Paquibato District.
This year, the 3IB troops are tasked to dismantle private armed groups that pose security risks prior and during the election period. The Philippine Army also joined other government security agencies in forging a united front against threat groups to ensure the safety and security of the upcoming elections.
The Commanding General of Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., has committed to help the Commission on Election together with other security forces in ensuring a secured and orderly May 2022 polls.
