Communist terrorist nabbed in joint law enforcement operation in Kalinga

One Communist terrorist was apprehended in a joint law enforcement operation at Sitio Pococ, Brgy. Apatan, Pinukpuk, Kalinga in the morning of February 21, 2022.

“Our troops from the 50th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Melanio Somera together with the operatives of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office served warrants of arrest for murder and attempted murder to a certain Martin ‘Betay’ Gamay,” said Northern Luzon Command (NoLCom) Commander Lt Gen Ernesto Torres Jr.

“The cooperation of the peace-loving locals in the area helped our security forces reach and successfully apprehend the lawless element,” Lt. Gen Torres added.

In a statement from Joint Task Group Peace & Justice Commander Brig. Gen. Santiago Enginco further revealed that the apprehended personality has been on the government’s watchlist at number 12 in their periodic status report (PSR) as a member of the communist terror group unit Squad Dos, Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Baggas of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Party Committee (ICRC).”

The apprehended personality is now under the custody of Pinukpuk, Kalinga Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and documentation.

Meanwhile Maj. Gen. Laurence Mina, Joint Task Force Tala Commander attributes the success of the joint law enforcement operations to their “harmonious working relationship with the PNP backed by the support of the public which is vital to their information-gathering.”

Likewise, Lt. Gen. Torres expressed his elation for the troops’ accomplishment and reaffirmed the soldiers’ “commitment to President Duterte’s order to the AFP and the PNP to complement each other’s efforts in ensuring that any form of criminality in the northern Philippines will not be tolerated.”
