AFP’s Joint Task Force Zampelan under the Western Mindanao Command prevented ISIS-linked Dawlah Islamiyah’s plan to conduct offensives against government forces and civilian targets after a successful military offensive against the bandits in Barangay Ilalag, Maguing, Lanao del Sur on March 1, 2022.

The terror group led by Abu Zacariah, the new emir of ISIS in Southeast Asia, was monitored, planning to create havoc during the observance of Ramadan and the upcoming National and Local Elections, which prompted the military offensive.

Three local terrorists died in the close air support and combat operations.

Recovered from the clash sites were high-powered firearms, ammunition, grenades, explosive devices, and enemy personal belongings. More war materials were seized following hot pursuit operations.

Latest report indicates that the armed forces successfully overrun the enemy stronghold, which can accommodate around 100 individuals.

It can be recalled that AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres Centino said that “the AFP will step-up its security operations nationwide to ensure that the Filipino people will be able to exercise their right to vote in the coming national and local election free from intimidation from threat groups.” — WestMinCom
