The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) promotes peaceful and orderly elections as it continues to participate in the kick-off activities for Kawani, SImbahan, at Pamayanan (KASIMBAYANAN) launching of a Secure, Accurate, Free and Fair, Elections (S.A.F.E) 2022 National and Local Elections in Zamboanga del Sur.
The activities were also participated by 53IB’s Philippine National Police (PNP) counterparts and representatives from the Health and Religious sectors.
In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said the 53IB shall continue to advocate for a peaceful and orderly elections to be held this May.
“The 53IB shall carry out its mandate to dismantle private armed groups to maintan a peaceful and orderly elections, and to protect our people in practicing their right to suffrage,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
It can be remembered that earlier this year, the Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr has directed Army units to dismantle private armed groups (PAGs) while remaining apolitical in carrying out their respective duties. — 53IB
