High-ranking NPA leader yields to AFP in Davao City

A former spokesperson for the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) yielded to the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Panacan, Davao City on March 8, 2022.

Cristony ‘Jun’ Latiban Monzon known as Jong Monzon spoke for the CTG- linked alliance that trafficked Indigenous Peoples (IP) at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP)-Haran in Davao City.

He was the former Secretary-General of “Pasakaday Salugpongan Kalimodan” (PASAKA) and subsequently the political instructor of the CTGs operating in Southern Mindanao.

Monzon submitted himself to the Eastern Mindanao Command (EASTMINCOM) headed by Lieutenant General Greg T Almerol and Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict of Davao Oriental headed by Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang.

Two others identified as Mentroso Tumagsa Malibato, CTG supply officer and former officer of PASAKA; and Danny Tiklunay Malibato, political guide of the CTGs in Southern Mindanao also surrendered to government forces.

The three personalities’ surrender came after the series of encounters in Davao de Oro, with recently in Andap, New Bataan, between the troops of 1001st Brigade and CTGs in the area.
