The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) jointly conducted aerial surveillance as part of the Environmental Assessment Against Illegal Fish Cages and Encroachments in the whole stretch of Pasig River and Laguna de Bay on Monday, March 21, 2022.

Coast Guard District NCR-Central Luzon Commander, CG Commodore Hostillo Arturo Cornelio; Pasig River Coordinating Management Office Chairperson, Assistant Secretary Joan Lagunda; and Laguna Lake Development Authority Assistant General Manager Generoso Dungo participated in the said initiative.

Meanwhile, as proof of its strong and continuous partnership, the DENR is set to donate a five-hectare lot in Taguig to the PCG. The said land area is a strategic location in monitoring vessels transiting the Pasig River up to Laguna de Bay.

The environmental assessment against illegal fish cages and encroachments was part of the PCG’s developmental plans and capability enhancement in upholding marine environmental protection. — PCG
