The Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army Major General Andrew D Costelo PA said that in a bid to develop and enhance the warfighting capabilities in Urban Battle Ground, the 84th Infantry (VICTORIOUS) Battalion, conducted a 6-day Urban Combat Orientation Training (UCOT) at Headquarters 84IB, Camp MGen Gatan, Brgy Sto Nino 2nd, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija on March 21-26, 2022.

MGen Costelo said that the 6-day training was participated by 5 Teams composed of 24 personnel from different line companies of the unit and was facilitated by the Battalion Training Team.

Said training focuses on Combat Marksmanship, Basic Close Quarter Battles, and Urban Movements that aim to develop troops’ skills and knowledge needed in the conduct of operations in a non-permissive urban environment.

“I would like to congratulate the participants for completing the 6-day Urban Combat Orientation Training. This opportunity is vital to our campaign to enhance your skills in urban battle as we prepare in confronting the enemy in urban setting. Mahalaga ang pagsasanay na ito dahil ang teroristang grupo ang walang pinipiling lugar sa paghahasik ng kasamaan laban sa kumonidad kaya nararapat lamang na maging handa tayo sa lahat ng pagkakataon,” said MGen Costelo.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Enrico Gil C Ileto, Commanding Officer of 84th Infantry Battalion, cited studies published by the United Nation, saying that about half of the population of the world right now are living in cities. By 2050, the number is expected to increase with more than half (Two-Thirds of the World’s Population) living in urban areas.

“With social and organizational structures of armed groups have been known to have critical support of the community, the existence of State enemies have been sometimes seen in these thriving urban centers,” said LTC Ileto.

“Urbanization in the next decades see the need to look into how soldiers are preparing for battle in a landscape that is not a familiar ground for Army forces. That is why we, as soldiers should be trained for urban warfare that is based on the most recent experiences of the Army, lessons from around the world, and what the future requires,” he added.
