Philippine Navy’s BRP Tausug brings relief goods and SRR team at Leyte

Philippine Navy vessel BRP Tausug (LC295) arrived at Specialty Pulp Manufacturing Incorporation, Baybay City, Leyte bringing assorted relief goods from Department of Social Welfare and Development and Naval Reserve Center Eastern Visayas (NRCen-EV) and Search, Rescue and Retrieval (SRR) Team of Naval Installation Facilities Central, Thursday afternoon, April 14, 2022.

LC295, skippered by CDR ALLAN ROY D CANILANG PN, departed Captain Veloso Pier, Naval Base Rafael Ramos, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu early dawn of April 14, 2022 carrying 27 tons of assorted cargoes composed of one 10 wheeler truck of DSWD loaded with 730 boxes of assorted goods, 4,300 boxes of assorted goods from NRCen-EV, Aboitiz, PLDT and CDR CRISOLOGO PN(Res)(MNSA), and SRRT personnel to aid the conduct of search, rescue and relief operations in the typhoon-hit areas brought by typhoon “Agaton” at Southern Leyte.

Upon arrival at Baybay, Leyte, NRCen-EV personnel composed of its regular and reserve force from 821st Marine Company Reserve and 523rd Naval Squadron Reserve provided as line handlers upon arrival of the LC295. They also acted as haulers and unloaded these relief items.

Relief operation activities are in coordination with the LGU’s whole of government approach that ensures delivery of basic commodities to those who are in need of help and assistance. These efforts are effectively accomplished through coordination and integration with the LGAs and LGUs in order to have an efficient identification of their constituents and better system of distribution.

The Visayas Command, AFP, through Naval Forces Central, is one with the LGUs and partner stakeholders in bringing prompt, responsive and effective assistance to the communities affected by the onslaught of typhoon “Agaton.” — PN
