The Command Center of the CG Sea Marshal Group received an unusual maritime incident report from its Batangas-deployed sea marshals CG Apprentice Seaman Ryan M. Pabalan and CG Apprentice Seaman Joemark B. Abanes, on their way to the Port of Caticlan, Aklan.
CG ASN Pabalan and CG ASN Abanes reacted quickly upon learning that one of the female passengers attempted to jump overboard while the vessel was underway. Further investigation revealed that the female passenger and her husband had a misunderstanding, and that her depressed mental state aggravated the situation even more.
The two marshals gently asked the couple to stay in a private room to discuss the matter over. Our sea marshals reminded the couple that trials are part of life but ending one’s life is and will never be the solution. They also urged them to think of their children’s future amidst adversities.
Thankfully, the couple and their two young children safely arrived in Caticlan; our sea marshals ensured that everyone was safe and sound and escorted them as they boarded their bus on the way home.
In his message, CG RAdm Gavan, Commander, Maritime Security and Law Enforcement Command, commended CG ASN Pabalan and ASN Abanes: “you just saved her life and the lives of her loved ones, too! Very inspiring! Keep it up!” — PCG
