As the government forces campaign to end local communist armed conflict continues, five CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) surrender voluntarily and turned over high-powered firearms to 57th Infantry Battalion (57IB), 6th Infantry Division, Edwards Camp, Brgy. Mirab, Upi, Maguindanao last May 18, 2022.
The former rebel, who were part of NPA’s East Daguma Front, Sub-Regional Command Daguma, Far South Mindanao Region, surrendered a 5.56mm rifle, a caliber 30 M1 Garand and three 12-gauge shotguns.
In a separate operation, this former rebel had become an instrument in the recovery of a 7.62mm M60 general-purpose machine gun (GPMG), another two M16 rifles, and other several munitions.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner,. Jr., lauded 57IB for facilitating the voluntary surrender of the former rebels. The Army Chief has likewise commended the battalion for its relentless implementation of CSP which is paving the way for the surrender and eventual societal reintegration of the former combatants. — PA
