The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed a former member of the communist terrorist group (CTG) who surrendered with firearm in Ilocos Sur.

The 7th Infantry ‘Kaugnay’ Division facilitated the surrender of alias ‘Tirso’ who is a former courier of the New People’s Army in Matibuey, San Emilio, Ilocos Sur on May 31, 2022.

He voluntarily surrendered with one Elisco M653 rifle to the Army’s 71st Infantry Battalion under the 702nd Infantry Brigade.

The former NPA member was recruited sometime in 1983 and served as a courier of food, letters and medical supplies in Tubo, Abra, and was entrusted with a firearm later in 2000.

The 7ID Commander, Major General Andrew Costelo said the surrender is a manifestation of the trust and confidence of former CTG supporters with the government’s campaign to end local communist armed conflict.

“We call on the remaining members of the communist terrorist group to surrender. Do not waste your lives fighting for an irrelevant ideology. Join the fold of the law and receive comprehensive assistance from our government,” said Major General Costelo. — AFP
